POWELL WITHDRAWS FROM JAMAICA CRICKET TEAM

Out-of-favour West Indies fastbowler Daren Powell has withdrawn himself from the Jamaica cricket team for the rest of this regional first-class season, according to chairman of selectors Nehemiah Perry. Powell, who has taken only two wickets in two matches at 73 runs per wicket in the 2010 West Indies Cricket Board four-day competition, reportedly called Perry and cited "personal reasons" for his decision.

JAMAICA LOOK TO IMPROVE

JAMAICA'S national senior cricket coach Junior Bennett believes further improvement is necessary if the team is to remain atop the West Indies Cricket Board's regional four-day competition. Bennett was speaking at Sabina Park moments after the team arrived from the Eastern Caribbean where they defeated the Leeward Islands by seven wickets in St Kitts between January 15-18, and then mauled the Guyanese by an innings and 27 runs in Barbados from January 22-25.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) -- Fast bowler Ravi Rampaul is expected to be fit enough to take his spot in the West Indies squad for the Australia tour, despite being ruled out of Trinidad & Tobago's clash with Barbados last weekend through illness. The 25-year-old was named in the final XI for the third- round WICB regional first-class match at Kensington Oval, but was sidelined by a stomach bug for the entire game and did not bowl or bat.

Jagdeosingh and Daniel were part of the Puerto Rico Islanders side that knocked the United States Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles Galaxy out of the CONCACAF Champions League last week.
