A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO Print E-mail
ImageWe knew that the next step for Basia would be to produce a Caribbean sports magazine. We have enjoyed bringing you coverage on our sporting heroes throughout the Caribbean, past and present.  Our goal continues to be to unite all regional sporting personalities. It is our hope that you will continue to provide us with the feedback necessary for us to do our job.

We are grateful for the many letters and messages that you have sent via our website www.basiasports.com. Continue to check our site for the latest happenings in sport and other exciting elements such as our online poll where you get to choose the 2007 Basia Sports Caribbean Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. This issue includes a feature highlighting all the nominees for this honour so be sure to read it and then log on to our website to cast your vote.

I would like to say a special thank you to my buddy Shaka Hislop and his lovely wife Desha for kindly consenting to grace our 2008 issue. We wanted to pay tribute to a guy considered by many to be a living legend, not only for his contribution to football, both home and abroad, but also for his outstanding reputation on and off the field.

In this issue, we also hear from some other Caribbean heroes like former West Indian cricket player, my mentor and friend, Maurice Foster - a man I consider to be gifted in all areas of sport. We also feature other sporting legends like Alvin Corneal and many of your favourite Caribbean sporting personalities like swimmer George Bovell III and field hockey player Stacey Siu Butt.

My heart is always filled with joy when we are able to complete another issue of Basia Sports so the world can see the wealth of athleticism that we have been blessed with in this region. For many years the achievements of Caribbean athletes have gone unrecognised and have been undervalued. Our Sports Foundation is committed to underscoring and honouring their accomplishments in both our magazines.

Thank you so much for the support we have received from many sporting organisations throughout the Caribbean. We feel humbled that you have readily embraced our philosophy. To all the athletes who agreed to be featured without hesitation, we are truly grateful that you would take the time to share your stories with the entire Caribbean. I would like to encourage you to continue reaching for your star.

Though I may not be involved in professional sports these days, I apply the same principle I have learnt while playing sports to running my organisation, “The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get less than you settle for.”

Respect!
